Subject: Local Board Election at Pudsey
The casting up of the votes in the election of six members for
the Local Board of Health for the township of Pudsey was concluded on
Monday night at half-past-ten, and the following is the state of the
poll as declared by Mr. Stead, the returning officer:- Samuel Crossland,
cloth manufacturer, Troydale, 1065; Richard Hudson, wool extractor,
Littlemoor, 1037; Benjamin Johnson Walton, cashier, Waterloo, 952; Joseph
Peel, gentleman, Littlemoor, 915; Isaac Waterhouse, Stanningley, 908;
Phillip Harrop, woolcomber, Thornbury, 893; Robert Spencer, cloth manufacturer,
Littlemoor, 790; Samuel Armitage, cloth manufacturer, Greenside, 726;
William Henry Vickers, stone merchant, Stanningley, 675; John Halliday,
cloth manufacturer, Lowtown, 648; Joshua Gaunt, cloth manufacturer,
Radcliffe Lane, 637; Joseph Clark, Engineer, Laisterdyke, 592. The contest
has again been a political one, and the Liberal Party have again elected
all their men, the first six being all Liberals.
