Subject: Lepton's Charity at Pudsey
The Christmas dole has just been distributed by the trustee,
Mr. Richard Womersley, assisted by the town's officials, in the shape
of cotton foe sheets, shirts, &c., to such of the poor who do not
receive parish relief, in accordance with the will of Mr. Joseph Lepton,
gentleman, of Pudsey who left by will dated 6th November 1715, a field
of four acres and three roods, called Dickroyd, to trustees, upon trust,
to pay £3 a year to a dissenting minister settled in Pudsey, the
residue of the rent thereof to be given to such poor persons who do
not receive the town's allowance. Mr. Lepton was one of the trustees
of the Nonconformist Meeting-house, bought in 1708, then called the
Oxbarne, and situated at the top of Chapeltown, Pudsey.
