The 1871 census returns for Idle can be found on two pieces; RG10 4501 containing Enumeration Districts 1 to 6, and RG10 4502 containing Enumeration Districts 7 to 14.

The districts are currently being transcribed and added to the database. The table below gives a description of each Enumeration District and the current status of each. In some sections, vessels on the canal were included as part of the district, in other cases, the separate form was issued.
