Description

The top half of a broken scabbard cast in bronze. Oval profiled with strong ridges running lengthways at the outer edges and centrally on both sides, creating four fields, which are decorated with silver poured into prepared recesses and shaped to finish, creating embossed images. At the top of the scabbard there are three incised lines widthways. The decoration in each quarter is as follows:
1st quarter has a scene of a man chasing an animal and throwing two stones at it. The animal is missing the head but appears feline. It appears to be leaping over something, which is also silver inlay. The 2nd & 4th quarters have a design created by intersecting circles partly inlaid to give a leaf and circle design. the final quarter has a series of faces divided by bars, of which only one face remains
