Galerius worked his way up from simple soldier to Praetorian Prefect. He bacame one of the Caesars under Diocletian and became Augustus when Diocletian abdicated, He struggled against Constantius Chlorus who wanted to reintroduce a bloodline dynasty, but died of natural causes before any outcome was reached.
