Subject: Benjamin Gaunt
Benjamin Gaunt, aged 81 years, now living at Pudsey, was in the 33rd
in India, under Colonel Wellesley, (late Duke of Wellington), and on
the night previous to the seige of Sringapatam this old veteran bore
the Duke on his back about a quarter of a mile, he being slightly wounded
in the knee or thigh. He was one of the orderlies in the 33rd. He is
now nearly worn out, and expresses himself anxious to know if there
are many now living who took part in the Indian campaign from 1796 to
1805.
