Also known as the Independent Chapel, or United Reform Conrgregation, this church is one of the oldest
protestant non-conformist Churches in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
The church in Pudsey started with preaching in a barn in 1690, but other
meetings had been held in various places before that year. Elkanah Berry
was pastor until 1717.
A chapel was built near Uppermoor, Pudsey, in 1722, and then in 1794
a new chapel was opened at Chapletown in Pudsey.
The last service was held there in April 1864, and a new church was
built, the first stone being laid in April 1865.
This fine building was finally demolished in the 1970's, with services
continuing in the church school building.
