The marriage records for St John the Evangelist
in Farsley begin in 1845. As with the other new churches in the area,
few marriages took place here; local people preferring to marry in the
old church at Calverley.
There were only 88 marriages between 1845 and 1890. There is a record
of an "almost" marriage:
2 September 1844, "Sam Farrar went to get married to Annie Busfield
but ran away when the minister was putting the ring on her". Poor
Annie!
