The existing church of St Michael in Farnley is comparively new, though built on the site of older chapels. Baptisms and burials were carried out here from an early period; some memorial stones in the church yard date back to the 17th century. Known records date back to 1624.

The graveyard attached to the church is full and rarely used anymore. Burials take place at the cemetery on Tong Road about a mile from the church. The memorials here are from the latter cemetery unless otherwise indicated with an asterix*.
