The names on Pudsey war memorial have been researched and additional information has been added to the basic inscriptions. The memorial carries the names of 341 servicemen who died in World War I and 78 servicemen and one servicewoman from the second World War. Of those whose date of death is known, the most tragic day was that terrible Saturday of July 1st 1916, which corresponded with the first day of the battle of the Somme. At least nineteen Pudsey men are known to have lost their lives that day.
